FTL: Advanced Edition Review
FTL – Advanced edition
FTL ( Faster Than Light) is a “ Spaceship Simulation Roguelike-like” as the developers claim
now there have been quite a lot of Rogue-like games coming out lately but this is one of the first I played. Released in 2012 this game still stands up to the most recently released games in this genre.
Developed and published by Subset Games, FTL has had constant updates over the past 6 years and has full Steam Workshop support..
The premise of the game is this, you and your crew are being chased by a rebel fleet and you need to get to the final sector, all the while gaining upgrades along the way, to have a showdown with the rebel mother ship. There are many different crew types, weapon types, system upgrades and ship modifications that you can use to achieve this goal. And there are many different starting ships to choose from, more being unlocked as you progress.
But this mission isn't easy, it's very hard actually, even on the easiest setting you will be challenged, but then that's the beauty of rogue-like games, learning and adapting is just as important as the upgrades you get in your play-through.
I've had this game installed on my computer for years, ever since I first played it, no matter what I did with my computer FTL was one of the first things to be reinstalled. It's great for a quick session game or to get really stuck into and find the perfect way to win the game with your chosen ship and crew.
If you like space and/or rogue-likes this game is for you, it's one of the best game purchases I’ve ever made because I have played it so damn much, and even after all these years I still return to it often. This is one title that should not be overlooked.
FTL 8/10
Also if you do buy this game and love it like I have, keep an eye out for Into The Breach, it's Subset Games' latest project and it's gonna be great!
